serena (they/them) lives and works in brooklyn, ny.

their practice is an ongoing observation of fiber’s tendencies to cling, to scatter, to fuss. sometimes their weaving & knitting & handsewing are indulgences of the creaturely habits of fabric and paper. sometimes their hand work enunciates vernacular & inherited knowledge about coaxing fiber into relationships of mutual survival.

lately, they have been thinking about repetitive actions as conduits to memorization, understanding, punishment, destruction. the material & mental burdens of mending an aging surface are especially preoccupying.

elsewhere, serena designs patterns for hand knitting, and was formerly a freelance art writer. they teach writing & art history & knitting.

serena received a ph.d. in art history from the university of pennsylvania (2022), and a b.a. in art history and english from duke university (2011).
